How to Pay KRA Penalty/fine via Mpesa for defaulting date of submitting returns

Defaulter details

Have you ever defaulted KRA procedure for not submitting returns in time? If your answer is yes! Then, if you have never received a 'payment defaulter reminder notice'  asking you to pay for penalties in a given duration of time the violation was done, Yours might be on the way into your email account which you used when applying for KRA pin or maybe its already in the inbox waiting for you.

It is of uttermost wisdom to pay the penalty within the stipulated period provided (15 days) to avoid attracting more fines and interests amounting to tens of thousands.

KRA PAYMENT DEFAULTER REMINDER NOTICE

Step 1: Working with KRA portal to generate ​PRN (Payment Registration Number)

• 1. Log in into KRA portal itax.kra.go.ke/KRA-Portal/ (If you have forgotten details, reset your account or visit any KRA centre or Huduma centre near your location or cyber cafe)
• 2. On the menu with a red background, point to payment then payment registration

• 3. On the form that opens;
  • Click next to move to the next phase of the form
  • In phase 2, fill the form according to the details shown on your 'payment defaulter reminder notice'​ or as shown below

Click Add under Liabilities details section and submit button at the bottom to generate ​PRN (Payment Registration Number) in a E-slip that you can download.

Step 2: Working with Mpesa

• Navigate to your Mpesa Menu
• Select Lipa na Mpesa
• Select Paybill
• Enter 572572 as the business number
• Enter the PRN as your account number

• Enter the amount you want to pay
• Enter your Mpesa pin and press OK
• You will receive a transaction confirmation message from Mpesa.
