  1. Corruption and embezzlement of funds that is meant for zakat distribution by leaders
  2. Most of the rich Muslims in Kenya lack strong Imam thus very mean to give out their wealth for zakat
  3. Poor infrastructure and also political instability has made it challenging to collect zakat in Kenya
  4. Kenya is a non-Islamic country-Kenyan Muslims are forced to divert their attentions to paying taxes to the government instead of zakat
  5. Muslims have no population statistics for the Muslims thus making it difficult to know the number of Muslims that are supposed to pay out zakat

Differences between Zakat and Sadaqa.
  1. Zakat is compulsory to those who qualify to pay but Sadaqa is optional.
  2. Zakat is given to Muslims only while Sadaqa can be given to both Muslims and non-Muslims.
  3. Zakat has specified recipients while Sadaqa can be given to anyone.
  4. There is a fixed rate of Zakat payment while any amount can be offered as Sadaqa.
  5. There is a minimum amount in which Zakat is payable (Nisab) but Sadaqa has no Nisab.

Differences between Zakatul -maal and Zakatul-fitr
  1. Zakatul-maal is compulsory for those who meet the Nisab values after their yearly zakatable earnings are calculated while zakatul-fitr is compulsory on all Muslims regardless of age or financial status, the only exemption is for those who cannot afford their daily sustenance.
  2. Zakatul-maal is paid on savings of a period not less than one year while zakatul-fitr does not depend on savings but must be paid by every Muslim who can afford daily food sustenance.
  3. Zakatul-maal can be paid at any time of the year when it is due while zakatul-fitr is specifically paid in the month of Ramadhan before Idd-ul fitr prayers.
  4. The amount due for zakatul-maal depends on the wealth of an individual but for zakatul-fitr the amount is very small and fixed at 2 1/2kg of the staple food for each person.
  5. Zakatul-maal is paid by an individual Muslim on the wealth that he possess while zakatul-fitr is paid by the head of the family for himself and each of his dependants.
