Explain the contributions of Al-Ghazali to Islam (12 marks)

1. Awakened the spirit of re-Islamization in the society by carrying out detailed analysis of its moral and spiritual life.
2. Suggested for reformation of the society. He critized the Ulama for wasting time in debating insignificant issuies instead of devoting their energies to their essential duties 
3. He had a great desire for knowledge and discovered that the best guidance for man in the revealed knowledge.
4. Traveled to Nishapur to teach a nidhamiyyah Academy.
5. He was the first doctor of religion to strike at the roots of the Greek philosophy.
6. He wrote two books to criticize the irreligious doctrine of the Greek  philosophers. His books were Muqasid Al-Falsafah (the aim of philosophy  and Tahalut Al Falsafah (the collapse of philosophers).
7. He refuted the religious doctrine of Ibn sina and A-farabi and charged them as unbelievers. 
8. He wished to debate on matters of religion and philosophy.
9. In his book Ihya Ulum-Din (The revival of Religious Science) is considered to be foremost literary composition of the Islamic people. Every word of this book bas a magnetic effect to the reader. 
10. He is accredited with the laying on the foundation of  a scientific scholastic system in the Asha’rite School of theology. 
11. At later stage he ven induged) himself into suficism.
12. He wrote numerous books of Islam  covering different subjects e.g. Al Ihya etc.
13. He is recognized as a Mujaddid (Reviver of Islam) in the Muslim World.
14. He was a great teacher and  eloquent  speaker whose lectures attracted a cross section of people which included nobles and chiefs.
15. Stressed on the study of tradition biography of the prophet and modeling of Muslims according to his  life.
