a. Identify any eight (8) categories of Prayers performed by Muslims.[8 Marks].

The categories of Prayers that can be performed by Muslims are as follows:-
i.     Fardh ain

• These are the five daily Prayer performed by Muslims, i.e. Subhi, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Ishaa.

ii. Fardh Kifayah

• These are the collective obligatory Prayers. A section of Muslims can perform while others are exempted and deemed to have performed on their niyat, e.g. Salatul janazah (Prayers for the dead).

iii. Juma’a Prayers

• These are wajib Prayers performed on every Friday during Dhuhr time.

iv. Sunnah Prayers

• These are optional Prayers which have been recommended by the Prophet [s.a.w]. those who perform them get rewards; e.g. the Qabliya and Baadiya Prayers.

v. Nafl Prayers (Supererogatory)

• These are good Prayers to be performed; they are expected to take believer nearer to Allah, e.g. the Salatul Witr.

vi. Salatul Musafir

• This is a Prayer performed by a traveler. They are performed by shortening or combining the five daily Prayers.

vii. Jam’u Taqdeem

• This is when the traveler pulls forward a prayer, e.g performing Asr at Dhuhr time.

viii. Jam’u Taakhir

• This is the postponement of Prayers and performing the later; e.g. performing Dhuhr at Asr time.

ix. Salatul Qasr

• This is when the traveler shortens the four rakaat prayers to two.

x. Khusuf Ain

• These are two prayers of the Eclipses of the sun and moon.

xi. The Idd Ain (Salatul Idd Ain)

• These are two prayers for the two great Muslim festivals, i.e. Iddul Fitr and Iddul Adh’ha.

xii. Istisqai

• This is a prayer for asking rain frm Allah; if the rain is too much, it is performed to ask Allah to stop it.

xiii. Istikhaara

• This is a prayer to ask Allah to guide you in making a right decision.
